FAQ's
What is Become An InstaGrandma?
Become An InstaGrandma is an education service geared toward seniors, which offers private, one-on-one tutoring as well as group workshops. Lessons are typically based around how to use social media, how to use a device like a mobile phone or tablet, and how to use other electronic media and devices as well.
Who needs this service?
Seniors who would like to learn the basics of Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram would benefit the most from this service. This is also great for people who want to teach their family members how to use electronic devices, but may not have the time or patience to do so.
What is the difference between a private lesson and a workshop?
One-on-one, private lessons usually run for about an hour, and offer customized instruction based off of your immediate needs. The workshops involve between three and ten seniors, last for up to two hours, and focus on a set curriculum detailing how to use either Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. A custom curriculum can be made if it's requested in advance.
How often do I need have lessons? How many workshops do I need to attend?
You decide the number of private lessons and/or workshops you need. You can either pay for several in advance, or you can purchase them one at a time.
If you're interested in private lessons, I suggest just booking one session to start with. First, we can address your specific needs in regards to the platforms at hand. Second, we can use this time to make sure we're a good fit for each other.
Don't other places offer this service?
In regards to workshops: while there are some computer classes you can attend at a local community college, they tend to have a broader focus on using computers and the internet in general, whereas this workshop focuses on social media.
In regards to private tutoring: I've never seen this service offered by anyone else. If you have, please feel free to send me a link! I'd be happy to take a look at what they do and how they do it.
What do I need in order to start?
You need to have your own device that can connect to whatever platform you are interested in using. If you already have an account with that platform: Great! We can get started right away! If you don't have an account on a specific platform, you can either create one before we have our first session together, or we can use part of that first session to set up that account.
It's also helpful to have a list of all of the usernames and passwords for your most used accounts and favorite apps (email, Facebook, Skype, Fandango, Kindle, etc. depending on which services you're interested in). These can be in a spreadsheet, written on paper, or even organized in a repurposed address book.
Do I have to go anywhere?
Private lessons can be held in your home, and have even been held online (yes, really)! Workshops will require a location be agreed upon in advance, which may mean someone has to commute.
Can you make me instafamous?
While that is not a service I can provide, I'll gladly share some insights I have learned and refer you to someone who is more qualified to teach you how to become a micro-influencer.
Why should I hire you? Can't I just do this myself?
Yes, you are perfectly capable of learning social media on your own, and you are capable of teaching a loved one how to use it. The advantage of hiring me, however, is that I can address specific concerns in a timely fashion, so you don't have to waste time looking everything up. On top of that, some people don't want to change their family dynamic, and hiring an outsider can ease some of those frustrations and concerns. Think of me as an investment in being able to communicate more efficiently with your loved ones.
You've convinced me that I need this. Now, how do I pay you?
Thanks for asking! You can send online payments via PayPal or Venmo, you can pay via cash or check at the end of your session, or I can email you an invoice. You can learn more about the rates and policies on the Services Page.
